WILMINGTON — Caring Senior Service, a chain of non-medical home care services in most states, has announced it will be opening a location in Delaware later this year, marking its first in the First State.
“New Castle County is our starting point,” Caring Senior Service Managing Director David Cullmann told the Delaware Business Times. “We are very confident that once the residents of Delaware see the superior quality and service provided by Caring Senior Service’s GreatCare, there will be ample opportunity to expand across the state.”
Caring Senior Service will open at 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 106, after renovations, where senior management will handle day-to-day operations. The office will also be open to clients for visitation and meetings with caregivers. Caregivers will also use the space for training opportunities.
Three managing directors are relocating from New York and California to oversee Delaware operations. The senior home agency hopes to expand office staff by two directors, but anticipates hiring between 25 and 50 caregivers, Cullmann said.
Founded in San Antonio, Texas in 1991, Caring Senior Service provides assistance to seniors, the disabled population and any adult who may need help with everyday tasks like preparing food, running errands and bathing. After expanding the business in Texas, the company started offering franchising options in 2002.
Today, Caring Senior Service is in almost every state, and Delaware will mark its 50th location.
Delaware has been getting older, according to the U.S. Census Report and it ranks fifth of states with most residents over 65 years old, per capita. While Sussex County itself has proven to be a haven for senior citizens, spurring the healthcare industry to make serious investments, Caring Senior Service turned its attention to Wilmington first.
“The Wilmington and New Castle County areas have the highest number of concentrated amount of seniors in the state. There are many urban dwellers within Wilmington that need, but do not have access to the services that Caring Senior Service’s GreatCare can bring to them,” Cullmann said. “New Castle County seems like the perfect starting point within the state. We are hoping for further expansion across the state in the coming years.”
In Delaware alone, there are 8,040 of home health and personal care aides in Delaware, per the Department of Labor’s report on occupation and wages. The average median salary is $25,355. Sixty-four percent of home health aides work in New Castle County, where they are paid a median salary of $24,419.
